Creating Our Own Christmas Magic

December is around the corner, boy it’s practically on our doorstep now.

For many, it’s a hard time of year. Whether it’s the weather that gets you down, the dark nights, the infections and bugs flying around, gift buying and budgets, being with family, being away from family, undergoing treatments and so much more.

Many people dread this time of year.

I was one of them. I felt sadness when others felt joy, I felt pain whilst others were socialible and I was always coming down with something.

I allowed my pain and illnesses to take over the real magic of Christmas. Which many of us, whether we are chronically unwell or perfectly fit and well, forget.

Its about being amongst loved ones, the laughs and love shared, the memories created. It isn’t about the number of gifts you have got and bought, it isn’t about how many parties you have attended. It doesn’t matter if you have a sniffle.

Time with loved ones, whether it’s eating food or watching a film 🎥 is what we should all be focusing on.

We get so wrapped up in the commercial side and follow the crowd within society that profits on the ‘Christmas ideal.’

We can’t make ourselves love this time of year when we find it difficult - nor should we force ourselves.

It’s about creating your own rules and tailoring your Christmas in a way that will make you feel happier.

Remember, there is no need to follow the crowd. If you are struggling money wise, use the Boxing Day sales to your advantage and have a Boxing Day Christmas.

If you are away having treatment and not home in time for the day, who says that January can’t be the month to celebrate with the ones we love?

I am no fairy God Mother.. but I hope to help you through the 25 days of December that are Christmas mad.

With gift ideas, social ideas, tips and advice on self-esteem, gratification, confidence and management.

Each day will be working on something new.

If you have something you particularly struggle with and want me to highlight, don’t hesitate to let me know.

My aim.. is the make this the Christmas time to be the best yet. Remember it doesn’t just come down to the day but it’s the period you can truly make magical.

What should be at the top of your Christmas priority list?

- Time with family- not all of us are lucky enough to see our family regularly. So use this time as the perfect get together excuse. Plan more meals, gatherings and trips out.

- Pacing - whether you are fully fit or poorly we all get wiped out during this time of year with all the madness. There are many social events going on but remember pick your battles wisely. You will have more fun at the few events you do attend over spreading yourself too thin and attending everything.

-Budget- loved ones won’t remember that you spent 100’s on the latest item. They will remember keepsakes and personalised gifts to them that they can treasure forever.

- Buy early - start early so then you aren’t panic, stress buying towards the end of the month. Leaving you with little money to social and see friends.

- Hospital- many of my readers will be spending a lot of their Christmas period in and out of hospitals or at regular health related appointments. Leaving little time to purchase gifts. Visit loved ones and take them activities where they can gain a new skill , fill their time and create gifts from. I.e sewing, knitting, scrapbooking, writing, card making and colouring. They feel guilty enough for being away in hospital undergoing expensive gifts without the thought of not being able to give you a gift to thank you!!

We all deserve to have the best Christmas possible.

So let’s make the steps to make that dream happen.

What do you love most about Christmas?

Let me know.

COOKING TIPS

#1
Feeling sluggish and rubbish when you have woken up? Get boosting up on bananas the more the better - they will help settle your stomach, boosting digestion, they are a mood enhancer, they will give you the energy you need and keep you full. Buy my book for banana receipe ideas.

#2
Wake up every morning and ATLEAST have one glass of lemon water before doing anything else! Ideally try to drink a litre of water. The lemon wakes up your digestive system ready for the day and has great cleansing properties.

#3
Check your dairy and meat intake - dairy can sit in your system for up to seven days unable to digest properly. Meaning other foods also get neglected and nurtients aren't absorbed properly and you feel extremely bloated. Go and smell your food bin, your stomach will be in that state. Rotting foods in your belly - hmm nice.

#4
DO NOT FEAR CARBS - THEY ARE NOT THE ENEMY! CARB UP!!
Bananas, Rice, Potatoes, Leafy Greens, Corn, Beans, Lentils etc PACK THEM IN GO MAD.

#5
NEVER COUNT CALORIES - NEVER RESTRICT!! These restriction 'starvation' diets who tell you to only eat 500 calories a day then have a treat day - where you binge out and eat WAY too much, is simply messing up your metabolism and on your binge days yours body stores all the fat meaning you gain weight because it knows it is going to go back into starvation mode and needs to hold onto every little thing it can. HELLO WEIGHT GAIN.

Life is too short not to live it to the full, making yourself happy.
