Life With Lyme - Poem

Life with Lyme,

Knows no time,

The pain is real,

Everyday I pray to heal,

Doctors want me in and out,

Not willing to know or understand what Lyme is all about,

The bad days are bad,

For small victories I am glad,

I can’t live,

For that - Lyme I can’t forgive,

If I get the chance to explore,

I suffer more,

The bacteria take hold,

No matter what we are told,

Finding balance is hard,

Our hope and faith we can’t discard,

We watch life from afar,

Truly invisible - will we ever be a shining star?

Invisible in person and illness you see,

I have lost me,

Forgotten and you disappear,

Death you no longer fear,

Doctors cause me more pain,

Calling me insane,

I wish all of you,

Could walk in my shoes and live with pain as I do,

Maybe then you would cry too,

Would you weather the storm through?

I am a girl you don’t see,

Too wrapped up in your world that is so free,

That is fine by me,

But by my side don’t claim to be,

I miss,

The bliss,

Of a life that was full,

Never dull,

On the plane,

Adventures that were inane,

Filled with successes,

From swimming costumes to ball dresses,

Eating foods in amazing places,

Experiencing cultures and different faces,

There were red flags of ill health all along,

I was to stubborn and strong,

To really be open about how bad I was feeling,

My career is healing,

Sleepless nights,

Aren’t filled with star lights,

They are filled with monsters you can feel eating away,

Praying to just be able to fight through the day,

People make judgements but they aren’t in your shoes,

They believe you make your own rules,

My rules would scream life and fun,

To once again see the sun,

That smile,

Pushes you the extra mile,

True friends,

Ride with you round the bends,

The bacteria that is within me,

Will never rest you see,

Day and night the fight goes on,

My rest time gone,

The candle burns at both ends,

The cycle never ends,

Who defends,

My family and friends,

They deserve better,

Sophie their go-getter,

Lyme,

Knows no time,

Feel free,

To lie with me,

This disease,

Is no breeze,

In time you wish you could freeze,

Living life with ease,

You colour so bright,

Write poetry through the night,

Your passion is your power and soul,

Down your path you continue to stroll,

Lift you head,

Yes you are stuck in bed,

You have love in your heart,

Of life and the world you are still a part,

Lyme,

Knows no time,

Sit here,

Wipe that tear,

Just knowing you are near,

Helps me face any fear.

COOKING TIPS

#1
Feeling sluggish and rubbish when you have woken up? Get boosting up on bananas the more the better - they will help settle your stomach, boosting digestion, they are a mood enhancer, they will give you the energy you need and keep you full. Buy my book for banana receipe ideas.

#2
Wake up every morning and ATLEAST have one glass of lemon water before doing anything else! Ideally try to drink a litre of water. The lemon wakes up your digestive system ready for the day and has great cleansing properties.

#3
Check your dairy and meat intake - dairy can sit in your system for up to seven days unable to digest properly. Meaning other foods also get neglected and nurtients aren't absorbed properly and you feel extremely bloated. Go and smell your food bin, your stomach will be in that state. Rotting foods in your belly - hmm nice.

#4
DO NOT FEAR CARBS - THEY ARE NOT THE ENEMY! CARB UP!!
Bananas, Rice, Potatoes, Leafy Greens, Corn, Beans, Lentils etc PACK THEM IN GO MAD.

#5
NEVER COUNT CALORIES - NEVER RESTRICT!! These restriction 'starvation' diets who tell you to only eat 500 calories a day then have a treat day - where you binge out and eat WAY too much, is simply messing up your metabolism and on your binge days yours body stores all the fat meaning you gain weight because it knows it is going to go back into starvation mode and needs to hold onto every little thing it can. HELLO WEIGHT GAIN.

Life is too short not to live it to the full, making yourself happy.
