It's bank holiday - the sun has its hat on, BBQ's are in full swing, walks in the Forrest with the dogs, picinis with the children and children playing in long grass. All amazing but leave us highly exposed to being biten.
Here are a few hints and tips to avoid becoming infected and even biten in the first place:
1. Where white or coloured clothes, avoiding black and darker shades. This is so you are able to see the black tick on your clothing or skin if you are biten.
2. Wear long sleeves and long trousers especially if you are out walking in forrests or long grass.
3. Where shoes or even better wellies / hiking boots - sandals and open toe shoes lead you open to the ticks.
4. Tie you hair back and wear a hat. They can bite anywhere! You don't want them swinging around clinging to your hair either.
5. Carry tweezers with you. So if you are biten then you must immediately begin trying to remove the tick carefully with the tweezers. Place the tweezers around the top of the body of the tick and carefully pull out. Be careful! Don't squeeze the body as this can burst the tick's stomach releasing infected blood from its stomach to soak into your skin and into your bite wound.
6. Use insect sprays!
7. Take garlic tablets or add more garlic to your diet.
8. Do a tick check as soon as you return from an outside activity and continue to check for a couple of days incase you have missed the tick but a rash may begin to show.
9. Educate your children on the importance of checking and dressing safely. As they may not understand your logical towards them playing out etc.
10. Even if you remove the tick go and get checked out by the doctors!!

I can't express the importance. Yes, it's a little bite! That little bite can be a lifetime of pain and suffering if not treated within a short window of time.
We must also raise the fact that ticks don't only carry Lyme, they carry a number of other deadly co-infections which also attack the immune system and organs. Leading Lyme disease to be so hard to diagnose and treat because we all suffer differently. You can also be infected with Lyme not only by ticks! Look out for spider bites, insect bites and mozzies!
Only 50% get the bulletpoint rash !
Just because you didn't come out in a rash does not mean you are in the clear!!!
Please be safe, please get tested.
Be aware and respect how important this issue is and how important your 'self-awareness' is to staying safe.
I hope the tips above help and you are enjoying a lovely weekend.
Love and peace,
