Fussy Foodie.

Why can't you just have chips?

Why can't I just have chips?

Boy,  do I wish I could.

I wish my body didn't react and reject the foods I used to enjoy and were my favourites. That you can eat all day every day if you wish. How lucky you are.

You may look at me as a fussy eater, being awkward, and causing a fuss - maybe for attention.

My family know more than anyone the embarrassment I hate so much caused by my intolerances when having to eat out, on an outing and at a gathering. So why the hell would I want to do it for attention?

You all know the feeling when someone tells you, you can't have that muffin you instantly want that muffin more than anything. So why don't you think that it is absolute torture for me to sit and firstly be surrounded by all my favourite foods and then to watch you enjoy them. I am not saying I don't enjoy the food I cook up and eat. Though I think you will all agree a pizza over a salad is a clear winner for being more enjoyable.

Being out yesterday and being surrounded by my favourite restaurants, Wagamama's being one of them and having to sit there with my shop bought salad & rice. As restaurants don't listen to my requirements properly and I can't risk a reaction.

Even the lady clearing the tables couldn't understand why I was sat there with shop bought food, on my own when I am surrounded by dozens of restaurants and food outlets catering for an number of cusines.

Though thank goodness for Marks & Spencer's otherwise I wouldn't have had a decent meal. It would have just been snack bits and pieces.

If you are also suffering from intolerances, allergies or under-lying health problems do you have any outlets you visit and purchase food from or restaurants you enjoy and know can cater to you?

Tips if you are suffering from under-lying health issues and may suffer with certain foods it is suggested to cut out as many toxins as we can. Our body is filled with toxins which it is desperately trying to fight off already without you adding more.

It's advised;

To cut:

Gluten: gluten is known as a 'glue', it combines grains together. However a lot of people suffer from gluten intolerances due to gluten naturally causing inflammation in the body that some body's can't handle. I know products like, beans are classed as gluten free but why do I still react to it?

Because some products beans, hummus, oils  to name just a few can contain 20% per cent or less of gluten and be classed as gluten free. You body however may be too sensitive even just for this 20 per cent and they can cause a reaction. Beans especially are farmed next to wheat farms - meaning wheat grains and gluten can be blown onto them and they don't get washed off properly. So if you are highly sensitive to gluten keep off the beans.

Dairy: the pesticides from the grass the cows, sheep, goats etc are eating do finish in the final product, milk, cheese, yoghurt etc. Pesticides are of course very toxic to the body. Not to mention the hormones that many of these animals receive to speed up processes so demands for supplies are met. These hormones confuse our bodies and can cause mood, anxiety and many more disorders. A weak body doesn't know how to treat these hormones causing extra problems.

The final and most alarming point for avoiding dairy is that Lymes can be transmitted through raw milk. Ticks live in grass & forests, it's easy for wildlife to consume a small tick whilst grazing.

Refined sugar: refined sugar is filled with many toxins but most alarming is that the artificial chemicals within sugar suppress the immune system. Meaning your body does not remove or attack any toxins, anti-bodies, bacteria, viruses effectively. As the sugar is well, hitting the snooze button on your immune system leaving these bad chemicals to cause inflammation within your body and leaving you open to nasty viruses, illnesses and diseases.

Refined oil: refined oil is so toxic with so many chemicals within it that no part of its structure is natural. It is therefore totally alien to the body and the body, especially a weak one just goes into confusion, panics and reacts because it can not break down the toxins. These toxins are so dangerous to us, abusing them in excess causes chronic disease.

What can I eat?

Recommendations are if you can to shop organically. So you know less pesticides have been used, less toxins added, less hidden nasties that could upset you.

This means; potatoes, rice, veg etc.

Watch rice - always ensure it has not come from China. The elevated levels of arsenic and plastic will make you extremely unwell.

Choose gluten free options. There is a large and growing range of gluten free products on the market. Have fun, explore and enjoy.

This also goes for dairy - there are so many fab alternatives, plant based milks, dairy free cheeses, yoghurt, chocolate and more.

Sugar, sugar, sugar. How we all love it! Well don't worry - don't miss out. Switch it up for a plant sugar! Which has shown to have many health benefits. Check out my blog post on plant sugar and their benefits!

Oil, use natural, unrefined oils like coconut oil! Which is highly alkaline and helps detox the body and break down toxins not add to them.

Try to eat more alkaline foods that detox the body over acidic foods that can cause inflammation. Again check out my Alkanine food post for ideas.

To give you an idea though, pick you lemons, lives, green veggies, ginger, turmeric, garlic etc over vinegar, tinned fruit, meat, sugar sweets, chocolate, processed goods.

These slight chances reduce reactions and help the body to heal not adding your already over-worked, exhausted system.

Signs your body is suffering from inflammation:

Sickness

Stomach cramps

Burping

Headaches

Sore throats

If you are suffering from any of the above and don't really understand why? It may be your body screaming out for you to change your diet to help it out.

Made some changes already? Are you feeling any better?!

Let me know.

Thank you again Marks and Spencer's!

Keep positive and on the road to healing!

Love and peace

SOPHIE'S
COOKING TIPS

#1
Feeling sluggish and rubbish when you have woken up? Get boosting up on bananas the more the better - they will help settle your stomach, boosting digestion, they are a mood enhancer, they will give you the energy you need and keep you full. Buy my book for banana receipe ideas.

#2
Wake up every morning and ATLEAST have one glass of lemon water before doing anything else! Ideally try to drink a litre of water. The lemon wakes up your digestive system ready for the day and has great cleansing properties.

#3
Check your dairy and meat intake - dairy can sit in your system for up to seven days unable to digest properly. Meaning other foods also get neglected and nurtients aren't absorbed properly and you feel extremely bloated. Go and smell your food bin, your stomach will be in that state. Rotting foods in your belly - hmm nice.

#4
DO NOT FEAR CARBS - THEY ARE NOT THE ENEMY! CARB UP!!
Bananas, Rice, Potatoes, Leafy Greens, Corn, Beans, Lentils etc PACK THEM IN GO MAD.

#5
NEVER COUNT CALORIES - NEVER RESTRICT!! These restriction 'starvation' diets who tell you to only eat 500 calories a day then have a treat day - where you binge out and eat WAY too much, is simply messing up your metabolism and on your binge days yours body stores all the fat meaning you gain weight because it knows it is going to go back into starvation mode and needs to hold onto every little thing it can. HELLO WEIGHT GAIN.

Life is too short not to live it to the full, making yourself happy.
